Credentials and training

I graduated from the University of Melbourne and trained in Obstetrics and Gynaecology in Canberra and Sydney. I obtained my specialist qualification as a Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (FRANZCOG) in 2004 and became an accredited fertility specialist with Genea (then Sydney IVF) a year later.

I hold a Master of Reproductive Medicine from the University of New South Wales and am an experienced laparoscopic surgeon, having trained as a laparoscopic fellow at Sydney’s Liverpool Hospital. I have also undertaken voluntary gynaecological and obstetrics work in the Northern Territory and the Solomon Islands.

I serve as a lecturer and clinical supervisor at the Australian National University Medical School, and act as a mentor to medical students, junior doctors, and Obstetrics and Gynaecology registrars in the fields of sexual health and family planning. I am the O and G Integrated Training Program training supervisor, the chair of the RANZCOG ACT committee and the clinical director of Genea Canberra.

Approach to care

I take a holistic approach to my patients’ management. I always provide options and make sure each person fully understands their medical treatment before we proceed. My style is honest and realistic, yet kind – and I am unwavering in my support for the people I work with.

I particularly enjoy helping patients overcome complex conditions, and I find it deeply rewarding to assist same-sex couples and LGBTQIA+ individuals in creating their families. As well as English, I speak fluent Mandarin, Cantonese, and Malay.

What do you focus on in your practice?
My practice covers the full range of fertility and gynaecological care. I have a particular focus on endometriosis-related infertility, pre-implantation genetic diagnosis, and fertility preservation – including working with patients who have complex conditions, those who have experienced recurrent pregnancy loss, and LGBTQIA+ individuals and couples planning their families.

What can I expect from my first appointment?
We will take time to go through your history, your concerns, and your goals. I want to understand your situation fully before we talk about next steps. By the end of your first consultation, you will have a clear picture of what investigations I recommend, and what your options look like from here. I always explain things in plain language.

Do you see patients from outside Canberra?
Yes. I see patients from across the ACT, New South Wales, and beyond. Telehealth consultations are available for initial appointments where appropriate. Interstate patients will have monitoring in their own city and attend Genea Canberra for any procedures required.

How do you approach recurrent miscarriage?
Recurrent pregnancy loss is one of the most distressing things a person can go through. I take a thorough investigative approach – looking at possible contributing factors including genetic, hormonal, structural, and immune-related causes. I also offer early pregnancy monitoring for patients with a history of miscarriage, continuing through to 12 weeks.
